N21, N22 & N23 Buildings Network Refreshment Project
The network equipment of N21, N22 and N23 was deployed seven years ago since the construction of the new Campus in 2013. The original design of the network system was for administrative and clerical works, it is not suitable for research work which requires a faster network. Furthermore, the network equipment will reach its end-of-support state soon.
In view of this, ICTO planned to refresh all of the network equipment installed in N21, N22 & N23 within this year. We aim at optimizing the network topology and increasing the network speed of user port from 100Mbps to 1Gbps.

The N21, N22, N23 Network Refreshment Project will be carried out from May to August 2020 in 2 phases.
Phase 1 :
Phase 2 :
During the period, 473 switches will be installed. After the refreshment, each network port is increased from 100Mbps to 1Gbps (the theoretical value is 10 times, depending on the number of users at the time and other network environment factors). The network system also has higher stability because the switch is refreshed and the network topology is simplified. The simplified network topology simplifies the maintenance works thus speeds up troubleshooting hereafter. Newly installed switches support larger current outputs to support new wireless network access points that require more current.
