User ID is the unique personal identifier in all the University’s computer systems. All users will be assigned with a User ID to access ICTO computing services.

Staff User ID

A staff user ID is a five to fifteen English character/digit string starting with an English character. Generally, each user ID is based on the staff’s first name plus surname (family name). If the length of the staff’s first name plus surname exceeds fifteen characters, then the staff can choose to use a short name and/or an abbreviation. ICTO reserves the right to decide user IDs for staff in the event of any conflict / potential duplication.

e.g.
Staff Name : Chan Tai Man, Joe
User ID : JoeChan or TMChan

Staff Name: Kelvin Soltani
User ID : KelvinSoltani, KelvinS or KSoltani

Student User ID

A student user ID consists of the first seven characters of the Student’s number.

e.g.
Student’s number: X-A0-8765-4
User ID : xa08765

A password is a word or string of characters used for authentication to access the computing services. The password has to be kept secret from others and the password shall be changed every 90 days. We also recommend users to use two-factor authentication (2FA) to protect your UMPASS account.
