Virtual Desktop Service (VDS)
Overview
Virtual desktop service (VDS), referred as Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). It allows users to access another operating system without changing the settings on their own computers. It can be use as the following situations:
- You are out of campus but want to access the Windows environment similar to your office desktop to run some specific software.
- You want a legacy Windows environment to run some specific software which are not compatible with the current Windows desktop.
- You are not in the ICTO computer room but want to run some specific ICTO computer software.
With VDS, only the screen on the virtual desktop is sent to user’s local machine and no data will be stored on the local machine. You could simply log off the service after you finish using it. Your local machine becomes a terminal and all the processing is run on the virtual machines in servers within the campus.
VDS provides a pool of uniform desktops that users can access when needed. It’s a non-persistent desktops which revert to their original state each time when user logs out. It cannot keep user data.

Notice
- Supported Browser: Chrome 84 / Firefox 80 / IE 11 / Safari 13 or later
- VDS sends the screen across the network from the server to your local machine. So, it is important that you have a stable throughput and the low network latency. If you are at a location with very slow network connection and the network latency is very high, the user experience using VDI will be affected.
